How the Phoenix Journey Works
A Phoenix Journey is a space to explore what you're experiencing, understand what may be keeping familiar patterns in place, and discover how you want to participate differently in your life.
We work together through individual conversations, thoughtful questions, reflection, and opportunities to apply what you're learning in everyday situations.
There is structure to our work, but no predetermined path that everyone must follow. Your priorities, experiences, and what emerges through our conversations help shape the direction we take.
You don't need to arrive with all the answers. We begin with what matters to you.
Preparing for Our
First Conversation
Before our first session, you'll receive a Starting Point Reflection.
This is an opportunity to consider what brings you to Phoenix, what you're experiencing, and what you would like to explore. You may already know exactly where you want to begin, or you may recognize several areas of your life that seem connected.
I'll ask you to return your completed reflection by email a few days before we meet. This gives me time to read what you've shared, consider your responses, and prepare thoughtfully for our conversation.
When we meet, we won't simply work through a questionnaire. Your reflection gives us a starting point for a more meaningful conversation.
Our First Session: Beginning Where You Are
Our first session builds on the reflections you've shared and the understanding you already bring to our work together.
If you have a clear sense of what you want to address, that's where we'll begin. We'll look more closely at what happens in particular situations, how you respond, what you've already tried, and what may be making change difficult.
If you recognize yourself in several areas or aren't quite sure where to begin, we'll explore those experiences together. Through conversation and thoughtful questions, we'll consider where difficulties may overlap and what would be a meaningful place to start.
For example, you may come to Phoenix wanting to work on boundaries. As we explore your experiences, we might discover that difficulty disappointing others, communicating your needs, or feeling responsible for other people's reactions also plays a part.
That doesn't mean your original concern was wrong. It means we're developing a fuller understanding of what you're experiencing.
Wherever you begin, our conversation is an opportunity to move beyond naming a difficulty and begin understanding how it shows up in your life.
I may introduce a relevant perspective, question, or practice to help you notice something in your everyday experiences.
The purpose of our first session is to begin meaningful work from your starting point, with a direction that can evolve as we continue.
Between Sessions: Bringing the Work Into Everyday Life
Our conversations are an important part of the Phoenix Journey, but the work doesn't end when our session does.
Following each session, I'll send you a personalized email connecting what we explored to a reflection, question, or practice that supports our work together.
These activities are chosen with your circumstances and available capacity in mind. Some may invite you to observe a familiar response, consider a different perspective, or reflect on something you hadn't noticed before. Others may encourage you to try a different way of responding in a situation.
Initially, the invitation may simply be to notice what happens, without trying to change your response.
Becoming consciously aware of familiar thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can help you recognize patterns that previously happened automatically. That awareness gives us information to explore and creates opportunities to consider how you might want to respond differently.
As our work continues, the reflections and practices we explore will evolve with what you're learning, the choices you want to make, and what happens in your everyday life.
Your participation between sessions is important. The purpose isn't to complete activities perfectly or achieve a particular result each time. It's to engage with the opportunities for reflection and practice, notice what happens, and bring those experiences back into our conversations.
What you discover, including what feels difficult, helps us understand how to move forward.
Returning to Our Conversation: Reflection and Adjustment
When we meet again, we'll make space to explore what you've experienced since our previous session.
We may discuss what you noticed, what you tried, what felt different, or what remained familiar. Perhaps something surprised you, a situation was more difficult than expected, or you began recognizing a response you hadn't been aware of before.
You may have noticed something while it was happening, or only afterward. Both can give us useful information.
Together, we'll look at what happened, what may have influenced your response, and what you want to consider moving forward.
Sometimes a practice will be helpful. Other times, you may discover that something doesn't fit your circumstances or that a different approach would be more useful.
Rather than simply moving on to the next activity, we'll explore what those experiences tell us.
We may decide to continue with something, adjust a practice, consider another perspective, or take a different approach.
In this way, your Journey develops in response to your individual needs, growing understanding, and lived experiences. Each conversation helps us recognize what matters, what may need further exploration, and how our work together can best support the direction you want to take.
Beyond the Journey: Understanding You Can Carry Forward
Phoenix Awakening has an intentional framework that guides our work, but it isn't a predetermined curriculum. Your experiences, needs, and choices help shape how we explore and apply that framework.
Our intention is not simply to address the concern that first brought you to Phoenix. It's also to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and an approach to challenges that you can continue using in everyday life.
Through awareness, reflection, choice, and practice, you can begin to recognize familiar patterns, consider possibilities, and make more conscious decisions about how you want to participate in different situations.
Over time, these ways of approaching your experiences can become more familiar and accessible, including in areas of your life we may never have explored together.
The goal of Phoenix Awakening is not for you to depend on our conversations indefinitely. It's for you to leave your Journey with a deeper understanding of yourself and a greater capacity to navigate challenges, make choices, and continue growing independently.
The work we do together is intended to become something you can carry forward on your own.
A Shared Commitment to Your Journey
A Phoenix Journey is a collaborative experience. We each bring something important to the work we do together.
What You Can Expect From Me
My role is to create a supportive, respectful space where you can explore your experiences openly and without judgment.
I'll listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, offer relevant perspectives, and introduce practices that support our work. I'll help you recognize connections and possibilities, while adapting our approach as your needs evolve.
I'll also encourage you to question familiar assumptions and consider choices that may feel unfamiliar or challenging.
My role is not to make decisions for you or tell you who you should become. It's to support you in developing the understanding and confidence to make those decisions for yourself.
What Your Journey Asks of You
Your role is to bring a willingness to participate in your own growth.
That includes engaging in our conversations, being open to exploring your experiences, and making space for reflection and practice between sessions.
You don't need to have all the answers, feel confident about every choice, or know exactly how to make a change.
There may be moments when something feels uncomfortable, when a familiar response is difficult to change, or when you discover that what you thought you wanted needs reconsideration.
What matters is your willingness to remain curious, participate as you're able, and bring those experiences into our work together.
Moving Forward Together
Our shared commitment is to approach your Journey with curiosity, compassion, honesty, and a willingness to learn from what emerges.
Phoenix Awakening offers personal development coaching, not therapy or mental health treatment. Our work focuses on self-understanding, personal growth, and how you choose to participate in your life.
If this approach resonates with you, you can explore the Phoenix Journey offering to learn more about the structure, duration, and investment.
When you're ready, a Discovery Conversation gives us an opportunity to meet, discuss what you're looking for, and consider whether a Phoenix Journey is the right fit for you.
